Millions of years ago the primeval sea, the Tethys, formed the landscape of the country around Retz.
Different soils were formed by weathering, runoff and wind drifts, providing optimal conditions for our vines.
In the sedimentary rocks beneath our vineyards we still find shells, chalk and sea snails.
